Holiday Card

Recently, I made some gifts for friends - a box of handmade monogrammed greeting cards. Being in the holiday mood, I thought it would be fun to do a twist on the traditional cards and nestled the monogram circle in a "forest" of trees.

I hope you are on schedule with your holiday plans. If not, why not whip up a quick batch of notecards? Some beautiful ribbon, holiday printed paper, a few die cuts and a quick stamped initial and you're ready to go. Not sure who your recipient will be? Replace the initial with an appropriate short greeting and you'll have a wonderful surprise at the ready in your gift closet.

The trees and circles are from Accucut; the ribbon is from May Arts and the monogram border and initial are from Just Rite Stamps.

I'm a big fan of Rosie's Roadshow stamps because they are small and very interactive. You can easily combine the designs to create a custom look for your greeting cards. The verse on the inside of this card?? "Don't let the turkey get you down."

Cheaper by the Dozen Contest Winner

USAQ DT Challenge - Studio Cloth

Finally! I must say that when I started this project I didn't anticipate just how long it would take so I do apologize to all of you and my DT mates for the very long delay in getting the last USAQ DT challenge project completed and posted. But, I must say it was certainly worth it. I just the love the results of this awesome tote bag!

While the project was not particularly difficult, I did have a few learnings along the way that I thought I'd share with you before I give you the step-by-step detail.

First, plan ahead - mostly for the drying time needed between steps and for each side.
Second, test your background colors against the napkin you plan to use. I found that while my colors all coordinated beautifully, the thin top layer of the napkin was no match for the purple and green backdrop so I simply used my pigments to enhance the image.
Third, make sure you have enough of the materials you will need for the project - paint, PPA, etc.
Finally - have fun!

Now for the instructions:

Gather your supplies - a tote sewn from Studio Cloth, Perfect Pigments, PPA Matte and Gloss, napkin, foam brush and paint brushes, Crystal Effectz
Apply the Perfect Pigments to the tote - be careful to let each side dry completely before you lay it down and move on to the next side - to create the background
Add images from your napkin using PPA matte and a foam brush; let dry
If desired, enhance napkin images with Perfect Pigments and a paint brush or Fine Liner; let dry
Give the tote a final coat of PPA Gloss, sprinkling in Crystal Effectz while wet
Sign and date your masterpiece with the Fine Liner

At long last, I'm finally getting around to posting the winners from the 2nd quarter "Cheaper By The Dozen" card contest. If you don't know what the contest is all about, you can find the details here.

The first place winner is . . Barb Voelkel. Barb's card is a twist on the easel card we did in class. What you can't tell from this photo is the amount of time Barb invested in making this card - she popped the butterflies and repeated the theme on the inside of the card and envelope.

And, for this contest we also had a 2nd place winner . . . Marlene Leugers. Marlene's card is a twist on the card we made using a template cut from the Nestabilities scalloped rectangle. Instead of sponging color inside the "frame" portion of the template, Marlene used the die cut shape and sponged color around it, leaving the center white.

Congratulations to Barb and Marlene and a big thanks to all who played along this quarter.

Don't forget, if you want to play along you need to attend one of this quarter's classes and submit your card(s) directly to me by October 1.

This week's challenge involves Studio Cloth and Perfect Pigments. Working with the products was not the real challenge for me but rather my schedule the past two weeks. When I received my kit, I immediately knew what I wanted to do but had very little time to work on it. I didn't want to miss the team post today so I'm only able to give you a sneak peek at the project. Check back in a day or so and I'll have the project ready to show you in its entirety. USAQ DT Challenge #4

Sometimes, beauty is found in the simplest things.

When I received my kit for the USArtQuest Design Team challenge #4, I found a tin full of fabulous colors, sizes and shapes of mica chips and flakes. The way the little jars were packaged reminded me of the wide array of bling embellishments available today. I decided to make a batch of my own and started with some chipboard, die cut a bunch of shapes and then just started playing with them. It is really quite simple to do - brush each piece with a coating of PPA gloss and randomly sprinkle or artfully place flakes on top. Leaving them to dry overnight, I was quite pleased when I revisited my treasures the next morning.

For my DT project card, I selected this butterfly and decided the best way to transform it into a thing of beauty was to make a simple yet elegant backdrop. Taking my inspiration from the colors of the mica flakes, I opted for a grey, blue and turquoise palette. A little scoring around the edges, highlighted with some lightly dusted turquoise ink gently complements the butterfly without drawing the focus away from it. And, taking my cue from our last challenge which included handmade papers, I cut a "mat" from a pretty paper bag and mounted the entire piece to a soft blue grey square card. Can you "shabby chic?"

USArtQuest DT Challenge #3

It is time for another USArtQuest Design Team challenge post. For this challenge, the DT received some mica tiles, PPA gloss and some beautiful handmade papers. The papers reminded me of some gorgeous woven silk fabrics I purchased while in Hong Kong and Gurgaon, which made me think of fashion and this page from a vintage Sears catalog I had patiently waiting in my craft stash for just the right project.

The base of this card is black linen cardstock matted to ivory linen cardstock. A few carefully torn pieces from my vintage catalog page were adhered with PPA matte; accompanied by some lace trim, aged with a bit of walnut ink. For the finishing touches, I used heart shapes punched from mica to spotlight the model's face, the price and a deep red silk flower to bring a touch of color to the collaged card.

If you haven't played with Mica tiles in a while, hopefully this will inspire you to dust them off and get creative. Be sure to check out the awesome projects created by the rest of the team at the USAQ blog.

Box of Chocolates

Remember the line from Forrest Gump - ". . . life is like a box of chocolates . . . "? Well, that's what I think of whenever I look at this card. Verses Rubber Stamps has come out with some fabulous new designs and this card features one of them so be sure to check them out online or in person at Stamp Your Art Out.

I made the background paper with a quick swirl of chocolate brown acrylic paint and pink shimmer mist. The little gold "faux" brads were made using Duo Glue and Gilden Glitz flakes from USArtQuest. And the cardstock is my favorite KaleidaPaper from Marco's Paper. And the best part? The embellishment is a gold foil-wrapped chocolate! Add this to a tin of your favorite homemade or store bought chocolates and you've got the perfect girlfriend gift for any occasion.

Today is my mother's birthday and she is quite the firecracker. She loves to dance and strut her stuff so I decided the peacock (from Magenta) was the ideal image for this year's birthday card. I stamped and embossed the image in gold (Judikins) on watercolor cardstock (Marco's Paper) and then painted it with watercolor paints (USArtQuest). I matted the finished image with two colors of Stardream cardstock (Marco's Paper).

Lately, mom's been a bit frustrated because she's "off the grid" and everything she wants to do seems to require internet access and/or an email address. My siblings and I decided to help her get connected and we bought her a laptop. To say she was surprised is an understatement.

It isn't often we can pull one over on my mother but with a little planning and some fancy footwork, we managed to really get her good this time. We started her off slow - teaching her how to play solitaire and do some basic stuff in Word. We're working on getting her on email and maybe even Skype so she can virtually visit her out of town family and friends. Oh, the possibilities are endless and, while she admits to feeling a bit overwhelmed, she is really excited to be learning all kinds of new things.

Pink Flamingo

The inspiration for my project came from one of those purchases we've all made. You know - the fun item in the clearance section of our favorite store that we just have to have it because we're certain it will be ideal for some unknown future project. I found these fun pink flamingo napkins last summer and today I am finally vindicated!

If you want to make your own version, just follow these easy instructions. Brush a quick coat of PPA matte on the art canvas and gently apply the printed layer only of the napkin, centering the flamingo. Let it dry and then trim around the design, leaving about 1/2" to wrap around the back of the art canvas, adhering the edges to the back with PPA matte. To finish the focal piece, I used my fine liner tool and some gold watercolor paint to highlight parts of the flamingo and then gave it a top coat of PPA gloss, with a little sprinkle of Crystal Effectz.

With my flamingo complete, I just needed to create the perfect tropical setting. With a few quick strokes of interference watercolors, I created some palm fronds and rippling water and my card was complete.

Before you go, however, don't forget to check out the awesome frame I made for the hop. Most of you know I'm a cardmaker at heart but this is a special event so it calls for a special project.

I did get a bit carried away working on this project and couldn't seem to restrict myself to just using the supplies in the kit. The quality of the USAQ products is phenomenal!

With the exception of the frame, all supplies can be purchase at USAQ's online store.

Gildenglitz - gold
Fine Liner tool
Duo Glue
Paint brush
Perfect Pigments - titanium white, deep sky blue, cobalt turquoise hue, magenta, purple mist
Perfect Glaze - clear
Perfect Paper Adhesive Gloss
Crystal Effectz
Wood frame

Paint the frame with a base coat of white. Mix glazing medium into the blue, turquoise and purple acrylics. Using the little yellow sponges that come with the acrylic paint kits, layer the paints starting with the turquoise and adding highlights with the blue and purple. Remember to let a little of the white base show through.

When the paint is dry, place a couple of drops of Duo Glue into the Fine Liner and let your imagination (and your hand) wander, creating swirls and squiggles all over the frame. Remember, when the Duo Glue is clear, it is ready to adhere. This is your sign to add the Gildenglitz, pressing the flakes gently into the glue. Use the texture sponge to brush off the excess flakes, which can be used in the next step. To add a little interest, I placed a drop of Duo Glue on my finger and created a few smudges here and there, adding more Gildenglitz to bring them to life.

For the finishing touch to my frame, I coated the frame with PPA gloss and lightly sprinkled a bit of Crystal Effectz.

I typed up one of my favorite prayers and inserted into the frame. Not only am I reminded of the message, but seeing it in the beautiful frame puts a smile on my face.

Big News!!!

I have some very exciting news to share with you - I've been published again in the July issue of CardMaker Magazine. My article is all about reverse stamping and includes three cards, each using a different technique.

But wait -there's more! I am about to embark on another aspect of my creative journey and I'm not going to do it alone. Want to know why I'm all smiles and about to burst at the seams???? Well, I can't tell you just yet - you'll have to check back in a couple of days to find out all the details on this one!

In the meantime, I thought I'd share a quick card that is appropriate for the upcoming holiday weekend - the unofficial start to summer - yippee! This cute little chef is from Inky Antics and the inside contains the verse "my condiments to the chef" - also from Inky Antics. Wouldn't this make an adorable thank you card to send to your host/hostess for this weekend's barbecue or picnic?

I colored this with my Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.

CBD Card Contest Winners

Our first quarter card contest from my Cheaper By The Dozen class is over and the results are in. We actually had a tie for first place so I asked my craft sister, Peggy, to cast the tie breaker vote to keep the judging as unbiased as possible. Although the contest is set up to only have one winner per contest, I decided to do a first and second place this time.

And the 1st place winner is . . . . Barb Voelkel! Barb submitted a twist on the "cocoa monkey" pocket card. Using some printed paper, an embossed and popped coffee mug and a palette of soft greens, shades of taupe and accents of black, Barb created a winning card. On the inside of the card, she layered the scalloped pocket and repeated the circles punched from the printed paper. Tucked inside the pocket was a packet of cocoa and a coffee stirrer - a greeting card and a gift all in one.

Our 2nd place winner is the fun-loving team of Bonnie Brill and Jan Heller. Their card was also a twist on the "cocoa monkey" pocket card. Bonnie and Jan used a completely different color palette - purples, pinks and greens and included a packet of seeds in their Mother's Day version. What a clever idea!

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I decided to spotlight one of my "kids" for the MiTi at Marco's Paper yesterday. I turned an easel card into a photo frame easel card by simply layering a piece of acetate over a decorated piece of cardstock. By using brads to hold the acetate in place, you can easily change the photo by simply sliding it under the acetate.

We used the watercolor palettes and the fine liner tool from USArtQuest to make the card.

Fallen off the face of the earth . . .

Just in case you were wondering, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth (yet). I have been a bit busy lately and that is likely to continue for awhile so my posts will continue to be a bit sporadic.

I normally don't post cards from my classes but I thought this card (from a recent Cheaper by the Dozen class) was quite appropriate for today's post. I will be at the Adventures in Stamping convention in Akron this weekend, doing lots of demos in the Marco's booth. This card combines two of the demo topics - coloring with Copics and embossing with the new electric Sizzix machine. I'll also have the new stamp positioner from Scor-It and the new distressing tool from Zutter so be sure to stop and say hi! The flower stamp is from Magenta.

If you can't make it to the convention but live in the Dayton area, I'll be doing a free Make-it/Take-it at Marco's on Friday afternoon (04.30) as part of their Spring Spectacular. You can check out all the cool happenings on Marco's website - scroll down to the week of April 25th.

Going Green for St. Patrick's Day

Are you ready for St. Patrick's Day? I actually made this card the first year I started stamping. As you can see, I had so much fun with the card that I just kept going and made a matching green envelope with a hand-stamped liner paper. Over the years, decorating envelopes has become my unofficial trademark. And, why not? You've already got the supplies ready to go so add a stamped image, a dusting of color and a little surprise inside . . .

Make-it / Take-it at Marco's Paper

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting the Make-it / Take-it at Marco's Paper in Centerville. We had several ladies join us to make this fun card, despite the cold weather and snowy roads left over from Friday night.

If you weren't able to join us, I've posted the supplies and steps for making the card below.
Supplies (all are available from the fine folks at Marco's Paper)

o 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Carnival Cover cardstock – 80# pine

o 4” x 5-1/4” and 1-1/2” x 3-3/8” Cougar cardstock – 80# white

o 2-1/4” x 6” Kaleida Paper cardstock – 80# pink

o “Little More” rubber stamp by Rubber Cottage (RC-436D)
o Spellbinders Nestabilities – Long classic scallop rectangles (S4-145)
o Spellbinders Impressabilities – Pebbles (I2-1010)
o 10” of sheer pink ribbon
o Distress dye ink pads – Peeled Paint, Worn Lipstick, Scattered Straw
o Flower Soft – Sweet Pea or Spring
o Foam tape or pop dots
o Swirl punch from EK Success (PSM87C)
o Sponges

Emboss white cardstock with “Pebbles” Impressabilities plate. Arrange embossing plate so that it is on the raised design side of the cardstock. Sponge entire piece with pink, yellow and green inks. Remove embossing plate.

Wrap ribbon around front of embossed panel and secure on back side with tape, trim off excess ribbon (save for later use on card front). Adhere embossed panel to front of card.

Cut scalloped rectangle and punch (2) swirls from pink cardstock. Stamp verse on white panel with green ink; edge piece with green ink and adhere to pink scalloped rectangle. Adhere panel to card front over ribbon using foam tape. With excess ribbon, loop around ribbon on card front and tie a knot on the right side of the card.

Adhere one swirl at top edge of verse panel with foam tape. Adhere second swirl on top of first swirl, offsetting the image to create a flower. Place a dot of glue in the center of the flower and add a small bunch of Flower Soft for the center.

We used the Wizard machine but the Impressabilities and Nestabilities will work with other die cut/embossing machines. If you're having trouble getting a good impression, try spritzing your cardstock with Paper Glide first.

Sketch 6 - Card #10

What a perfect card to end this very long series of posts - with an umbrella in my drink . . . now I just need the sun and sand to make my day complete. For this final version, I replaced the printed paper strips with some lime green raffia tied in a knot and the verse is matted on a tag for the focal point. Ah, finishing a project feels good and provides a sense of accomplishment.

So,now I have to ask the question that has been lingering on my mind sinceI started this series - have you finished all of your cards from theclass? If so, send some to me so I can share with others.

I did some purging in one of my closets over the weekend and found several unfinished knitting, crocheting and sewing projects. I was reminded of a comment I overheard at my favorite yarn shop - KnitWits - the other day. The gist of it was a challenge to finish at least one open project before starting any more new ones or to pick a day of the week and dedicate it to working on unfinished projects. So, tonight I'm headed to the nest to finish up an afghan that only needs about 2 more rows. The intended recipient has long since outgrown it (it was originally intended to be a baby afghan) and so it will be donated to a worthy cause. Another completed project, the wonderful feeling of accomplishment and the happiness in the eyes of the recipient - its all good. I hope your day is too.

One more to go after this and then I'll have to find a new topic to blog about. The butterfly is an Accucut die and I used string pearls for the antennae. This particular version is a great way to use up all of those scraps of paper and cardstock in your stash.

Sketch 6 - Card 8

It's tax time and while I'm waiting for a friend to arrive so I can help her with her filing, I thought I'd take a minute for a quick posting. Only two more cards to go and I'll be done with all of the posting from the Versatility class. Boy, has this been a long process. Thanks so much for hanging in there.

This card uses a fun musical note punch from Punch Bunch, a few more notes stamped on the card front and a couple of strips of printed paper that has a musical score on it with pretty colors sponged all over. I can't remember which company made the note and the verse, but I'll edit the post if I find them.

Stencil Class - Clarification

Yesterday, I taught a class at Stamp Your Art Out using brass stencils and various techniques. This card was one of the samples I displayed for inspiration. I mentioned that this card was done with tacky paper and glitter. Upon further inspection, I realized that this card was made using translucent embossing paste, not tacky paper.

Sketch 6 - Card #7

It should be obvious by now that I love punches and dies. Having a variety of shapes in lots of colors makes it easy to put the finishing touches on any card. I've said it before but I think it bears repeating - if you are color or shape challenged, find a piece of printed paper that you really like and take your color cues from it. Then, mimic or complement the main image from the design in your other card elements. I used the ivory, pink and sage green from the printed paper to choose colors for my card, the flower, circles and even the brad. Since the paper was a floral and leaf design, I chose a flower punch for my central image. It all works nicely together and without a lot of effort.

Try this approach on your next project and be sure to let me know how it works for you!

In January's edition of "Cheaper by the Dozen", our them was "Chase Away the Winter Blues". One of the cards was designed to send along a tea bag as part of a get well card; another included a packet of hot chocolate to warm and cheer up a friend on a cold winter's day and another included a bookmark because who wouldn't want to stay curled up in your pajamas with a good book on a blustery day? The cards were a big hit with the students and I received lots of positive comments on them. The most common sentiment was that it was nice to have cards that contained more than just a greeting. We talked about several variations for those cards - with a little change in color and design they could easily become a holder for a gift card, a photo, etc. The bookmark and photo corner are both from Accucut dies. The verse stamp is from Penny Black.

So, I thought it was quite timely that this card be posted from the "Cards with Versatility" class. Use a photo corner as a pocket to tuck something special into your next card.

Not familiar with the Cheaper by the Dozen class? Each month, I pick a theme and design four cards to fit it. One card is always a Christmas/winter card but the other 3 designs vary from get well, thinking of you, happy birthday, etc. Students make 3 of each design so they have a total of 12 cards from each class, including envelopes. Sketch 6 - Card #5

I love to look at my craft supplies and figure out different ways to use them. For this card, I took 2 die cut borders (Accucut) and turned the cut edges toward each other to make a center design. I put a piece of colored cardstock behind the openings to enhance it. Next I used raffia for the stem of the flower. A few punched ovals (Marvy), a silk flower and acrylic bead center and this card is ready to send off to cheer up a friend on a gloomy winter day - or to wish my sister, Victoria, a happy birthday since today is her birthday. Happy Birthday, sis!

Sketch 6 - Card #4

They just don't get any easier than this! For those of you who attended the "Cards with Versatility" class, you may remember one of the tenets was to have various elements on hand to quickly create cards. Using a pre-printed card, I grabbed a die cut tag (Sizzix) and stamped a flourish (Hero Arts) and verse (unknown) in matching ink and then wrapped it with a die cut flourish (Accucut) from my stash. A quick loop of ribbon and it was all done - in less than 5 minutes. Actually, it took longer to create the idea and gather the supplies than it did to make the card!

I hope you're making good use of your cards to go box! Don't have one? They are easy to create - just grab a photo storage box and fill it with pre-stamped verses, throw in some die cuts (make extras when you're working on a project) and a few pre-formed cards and you're ready to go!

Cheaper by the Dozen Contest

Note: This post has been revised to clarify a few of the challenge rules.

This post is for all of my Cheaper by the Dozen ("CBD") students. At my January classes, I announced our new "Perfect Attendance" program - attend 3 classes (or buy the kit from the class) and you'll receive a free card kit (makes 3 cards) from a previous CBD class. I also announced a CBD challenge at the Monday class but apologize to my Saturday students as I forgot to mention it to you.

The CBD challenge works like this:

The challenge runs quarterly and card entries are due as follows:

1st quarter - due April 1
2nd quarter - due July 1
3rd quarter - due Oct 1
4th quarter - due Jan 1

Card entries are to be a variation of a card design from that quarter's classes
Students can enter as many times as they want but must attend at least one class during the quarter
Winners will be chosen via secret ballot from votes cast by students attending the classes following the entry deadline (e.g., 1st quarter entries will be judged by April CBD attendees)
Entrants may not vote for their own cards and I will not be voting
Winners agree to let me post their winning entries on my blog but I will return the cards to them
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place each quarter with a grand prize given at the end of the year for the overall winning entry
Card entries can either be hand delivered to me during a CBD class or mailed to me in care of Coral Moon LLC at P. O. Box 62748, Cincinnati, OH 45262-0748. Please do not leave your cards with a staff member of SYAO.
Entrants may submit as many cards as they wish to but will be limited to one quarterly first prize per calendar year

Sketch 6 - Card #3

Well, I apparently got carried away with taking time off over the holidays and I am now quite delinquent in finishing up the Sketch 6 series. I really didn't get time off - I had several sewing jobs that needed to be finished for customers for the Christmas holidays. I am happy to report that they were completed on time and now I'm catching up on my blog posts.

If you've been playing along with this series, you know that I created lots of cards for the "Cards with Versatility" class from last year's Stampaway class. At some point in the process, I got a little slap happy and started playing with fun and funky colors. This card is the result of one such moment.

The verse comes from Verses Rubber Stamps. The brackets and scallop border are from Accucut dies. I love combining die cuts, pretty papers in bright colors and fun verses for quick cards that I can use for most any occasion.

Sketch 6 - Card #2

Time for another quick post before the holidays. Taking my cue from the printed paper for both color and design, I layered a thin loop border on top of the big scallop border (both are Accucut dies). Adhering a silk flower with a pearl center on top of the circles (Marvy punches) completes the look.

Whenever you are feeling "design" or "color" challenged, select a piece of printed paper from your stash that you really like as your starting point. Disect it (mentally, of course!) for design and color and then simply repeat the elements. Using the "Rule of 3" will also help you create a pleasing look. Odd numbers tend to give the illusion of balance and 3 seems to be the right number - not too few, not too many.

If you look closely at this card, you will see that I have 3 colors - lavendar, dark purple and white. I also have three elements - loops, scallops and dots/circles. I could have incorporate another color but the lavendar and the dark purple are at opposite ends of the purple spectrum that they can easily work as two different colors.

Sketch 6 - Card #1

This is the first of the cards from Sketch 6 - the final sketch for this series. The basic layout includes a border along the left side of the card, an embellishment in the upper right corner and a stamped verse in the lower left corner.

The border and dragonfly/circle are die cuts from Accucut. I put a coordinating strip of paper behind the border to make it stand out.

Stay tuned to see how this sketch gets interpreted over the next several cards.

Sketch 5 - Cards #8, #9 and #10

It's time to get back on schedule with my Versatility cards. If I don't finish up soon, it will be time for next year's cards! So, here we go:

Card #8
I embossed a tan piece of card stock for the square using a Cuttlebug folder. The bubbles of the embossing mimic the dots in the paper. A cute pink button and a bow made from sheer brown ribbon add the finishing touches.

Card #9
This card was created using a custom die I had made by Accucut. It is an A2 size card that opens at the top, with a velcro closure under the flap. You can easily re-create this card by cutting out a large circle with any of the die cutting systems. A couple of punched flourish shapes and a small flower decorate the flap and the bottom of the card.

Card #10

This card was also made from a custom Accucut die. It is similar to card #9 but I embossed the entire card front and then highlighted it with a Brilliance ink pad. The printed paper used on the flap repeats the embossed design to tie the entire card together.

Gift Card Holder

For all of you who attended the MiTi at Stamp Your Art Out last weekend, I'm finally getting around to posting the promised instructions. The supplies and instructions are for an A2 size card.

This is what the finished project will look like:

You'll need the following general supplies:

Card stock for an A2 size card and a 5-1/2" x 6" piece of card stock to match the card
Printed papers, coordinating card stock, punches, stamps, ink pads, etc. to decorate the card
1/4" and 1/2" wide red line tape
Other adhesive, paper trimmer and scoring tools

I'm assuming you can figure out how to decorate the card, so I'm only going to provide photos (click to enlarge) and instructions for the pop-up gift card assembly, followed by some general notes on how I decorated my MiTi card.

Start by cutting a piece of card stock 5-1/2" x 6" and place it in your Scor-Pal (see photo). This is the piece you will use to make the pop-up.

Note: For illustration purposes only, I'm using yellow and green card stock in some of the photos and I've highlighted the scoring marks with black and red markers.

Next, score your card stock at the 1-1/2", 3" and 5-1/2" marks (black lines in the photo).

Move your card stock to the right so that the line you originally scored at the 3" mark is now aligned with the 4-1/4" slot (see the red arrow in the photo).

With the 3" score line aligned with the 4-1/4" mark, score the panel at the 5", 5-1/2" and 6" score lines (red marks in the photo).

Fold the card stock on all scored lines. The middle red line is a valley fold. All others are mountain folds.

Place 1/2" red line tape just below the bottom score line and 1/4" red line tape just above the top score line. You'll also need two small pieces (about 1/2" in length of either width) positioned at either end of the piece just above the 3rd score line (below the valley fold).

Do not remove the tape liner until you are ready to adhere that portion to the card. It will save you a lot of frustration later . . .

Now, it is time to place the pop-up assembly into the card. Remove the tape liner from the 1/2" strip at the bottom of the panel. Line it up just below the inside fold line of the card and press it onto the bottom half of the card.

Fold the panel back on itself at the second score line (top of the decorated panel. Remove the tape liner from the two small pieces and press sections together on the valley fold line. In my illustration, the "1/2" marking and the little square will be pressed together.

This forms the "pocket" for the gift card to sit in.

Remove the tape liner from the 1/4" wide strip.

Press the front/top of the card down over the exposed tape to adhere it. Press firmly.

Open the card and ***presto*** just like magic, your gift card holder pops up!

NOTE: If you don't have a Scor-Pal, you can use the Score-It Board or a bone folder and ruler. Laying your card stock in the same orientation (6" width running left to right), score at 1-1/2", 3", 3-3/4", 4-1/4", 4-3/4" and 5-1/2". The rest of the instructions will be the same.

For my "Cool Yule" MiTi card, my supplies were:

White, dark green and dark red card stock (Marco's Paper)
Printed paper (JoAnn's)
"Cool Yule" stamp (Judikins)
"Trees" stamp (Judkins)
"Happiest Holidays" stamp (Verses Rubber Stamps)
"Dots" and "Snowflakes" stubbies (Stamps by Judith)
Tree and zig zag border (Accucut dies)
Mementos dye ink pads - Summer Sky and Cottage Ivy
Memories dye ink pad - white

General instructions for decorating the card:

Stamp snowflake and dots with blue ink on top half of white card
Stamp "Cool Yule" verse in green ink
Adhere printed paper to bottom portion of front card
Adhere strip of dark green card stock across bottom edge of card - use die cut, border punch or decorative scissors to jazz it up!
Die cut tree from green card stock and stamp dots with white ink. Adhere with foam tape.
Cut and score pop up assembly panel. Decorate panel before applying tape!
Follow instructions above for pop-up assembly.
Stamp verse with green ink and mat with dark red card stock. Adhere to inside panel.

Sketch 5 - Cards #6 and #7

After a few days away from blogging, I decided this card was so appropriate for today. We had our first forecast of possible snow flurries for Thanksgiving and I decided I like spring better!

And, since I've been absent for a few days, I'm going to post another card from Sketch 5 today. The second card is done in colors that would be appropriate for a guy card. It even mimics camouflage colors, which is quite appropriate since it's deer season.

Sketch 5 - Card #5

When you run out of pre-printed card fronts, what do you do? Check your stash of scrapbook papers and handmade papers. As you can see, I also raided the button box for this card.

I purchased the handmade paper I used on this card from Marco's Paper awhile ago. But, I stopped by today and they have an amazing selection in the storefront next door to their main store. So, if you're in the area, be sure to stop by soon and check out the array of huge sheets (approximately 24" x 36") of cool papers they have in stock right now - some with fibers embedded in them, others have neat textures - and they are only $1.00 per sheet!

Sketch 5 - Card #4

Another quick version of this sketch was created using the pre-printed cards. This one could easily become a Valentine for that special someone by simply changing the flower to a heart-shaped embellishment, using a pink or red square and a valentine sentiment. Seeing spots? This version uses another pre-printed card with a very colorful design so I kept the other elements plain and simple so as not to compete with the background.

After a long pause, I'm back to posting the cards from the final two sketchs of the Cards with Versatility class. But before I do, I owe a very big "THANK YOU" to Bonnie and Jan, two students from my "Cheaper by the Dozen" class. As my regulars know, I always bake something special for us to munch on during this class but on Monday, Bonnie and Jan brought baked apple dumplings for me (with lots to share with the other attendees)! And, they were still warm from the oven - talk about heaven on a plate. Yum, yum!!!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled posting . . . . Sketch #5 was based on a folded square, positioned on point, with a stamped verse tucked inside. Using a pre-printed card, a silk flower and an acrylic bead lets you make this card in a jiffy!

I'm going to have to end this post and head off to my kitchen to bake some of those apple dumplings - just remembering them has my mouth watering!

Marco's Make-It / Take-It Slider Card

It's time for a break in the "Cards with Versatility" sketch postings. Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting the Wednesday make-it / take-it project at Marco's Paper in Dayton. Those of you who attend know that I tend to do cards or projects that are a little more involved and this one was no exception. Thanks to all of you who not only came to play but were willing to trust me for that "aha" moment when the confusion subsided and the pieces all fell into place to create a really cool slider card that incorporates a hidden element.

This is the finished project. The supplies you will need are listed below and are available from Marco's Paper (http://marcopaper.com/). And, you get free shipping during the month of November for orders over $50!

5-1/2” x 8-1/2” navy cardstock with white specks
2-1/4” x 3-7/8” navy cardstock with white specks
2-7/8” x 4-1/2” white cardstock
3-7/8” x 5” white cardstock
Memento dye ink pads – Paris Dusk, Summer Sky and Tuxedo Black
Memento marker - Tuxedo Black
Colored pencils or markers
1/8” hole punch
½” circle punch
6” of 1/8” wide ribbon
Paper trimmer (slide style)
Redline tape
“Christmas Characters” clear stamp set – Inkadinkado (# 98408)
“Let it Snow” clear stamp set – Impression Obsession (# CL195)
Scoring board or bone folder and ruler
Acrylic block (for stamps)

NOTE: The first two photos use white cardstock instead of the navy for illustration purposes only. When making your card, please be sure to follow the directions that indicate when to use navy and white cardstocks.

With cardstock positioned so that the 8-1/2” length is horizontal and measuring from the left edge, score navy cardstock at 4” and 8”; fold on score lines.

Using slide-style paper trimmer; cut a line in the front panel ½” from the fold line (4” line); starting and stopping ½” from each edge. Cut a second line in the front panel ½” away from the 8” fold line; starting and stopping ½” from each edge.

Apply ¼” redline tape to the narrow flap but do not remover liner paper just yet – this will be done last.

Stamp upright snowman image on right hand side of smaller piece of white cardstock with black ink. Stamp verse on left hand side of smaller piece of white cardstock with navy ink. Randomly stamp snowflake all over panel with light blue ink.

Stamp fallen snowman image on right hand side of larger piece of white cardstock with black ink. Draw a snowball in flight just above the snowman. Color images as desired.

Punch a small hole in right hand side of larger piece of white cardstock and add ribbon.

Adhere smaller white panel to card front, centered between cut lines.

Punch notch on right hand side of card (front and back) using half of ½” circle punch.

Position smaller piece of navy cardstock over left hand side of front image panel and tuck top and bottom edges to the back side through the slits. Place redline tape on top and bottom edges (back side) of navy panel.

Align larger piece of white cardstock with top and bottom edges of navy piece and with left ends of slits; adhere to navy piece only.

To complete card, remove liner from tape at bottom edge of card and seal card edges.

When you pull the card, the navy piece on top slides from left to right to expose the hidden message and cover the first image.

Sketch 4 - Card #10

It was cold and rainy in Cincinnati so dreaming of a vacation at the beach seemed like a good idea. This version of the sketch pulls together the elements of the sea - blue waters, waves, starfish and fishing net. Well, the pink net is a bit of a stretch but the card needed a subtle pop of color and the pink tulle seems to do the trick.

This card concludes Sketch 4 - only 2 more sketches to go and then we can move on to other things. Yippee!

The top note die cut from Sizzix is one of my favorite shapes because it is just the right size for an A2 card. It works as a background element or can take center stage when stamped on. The tag and flowers are from Accucut.

I flipped the order of the sketch elements on this card and used a combination of pinks and black for a "girly" card. Taking my cue from the printed paper, a daisy die cut (Accucut) and words of encouragement (verse stamp from Rosie's Roadshow) complete the look.

Building off of Card #5, I used the same flower ribbon slide and spring theme. By adding an umbrella die cut (Accucut), I changed it to spring showers from spring flowers. Using a pre-printed card is a good idea if you are having a creative block - it gives you a nice starting point to draw inspiration from.

Sketch 4 - Card #3

For this card, I reversed the printed paper effect and used a pre-printed card, layered with solid card stock for the square. Repeating the dots on the card, I used circles instead of squares for the punched shapes and another button from my stash.

I conserved my ribbon by running a flat piece through the label tag and wrapped just the ends around the back instead. The ribbon knot is created using a much smaller length of ribbon tied just around the front piece. While this only saves about 4-5" of ribbon, when you are making 40 kits it adds up! If you are only making a few cards, its a great way to use up those small scraps of ribbons and fibers. Don't be afraid to mix and match either.

It's kind of funny but I used to laugh at my friends for never being able to throw anything away but I realize that I've become just like them!

Sketch 4 - Card #2

A little pink anyone? I love using printed papers in my cardmaking as it seems to make the color selection process a little bit easier. As you can see from this card, I simply used the three colors that were incorporated into the printed design - pink, salmon and a soft butter yellow. The "rule of 3" just keeps popping up in our artwork, doesn't it? Not only did I use 3 colors, but 3 tones as well - a light, medium and dark.

Again, the verse stamp is from Rosie's Roadshow. I love all of the different sayings they offer and the size is just perfect for tags and label die cuts.

And, since I'm also an avid seamstress and tailor, I incorporated a little rayon seam binding in lieu of ribbon and a cute button for the flower center - both from my favorite tailoring supplier - Banasch on Red Bank Road in Cincinnati. If you get the chance, stop by and check out the "wall of buttons." But, don't blame me if you get carried away with your shopping . . .

The flower came from a silk flower stem I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I wait for a good sale and then buy a few stems and disassemble them.

I love being able to co-mingle the various tools and supplies from my different hobbies! Why not raid the stash from some of your other hobbies to see what you can come up with?

Sketch 4 - Card #1

Well, it's time to get back to the posting from the "Cards with Versatility" class. This card is the first in the series from Sketch #4 and is an exact replica of the original sketch. It seems that at this point in the class development process, we started to get a little more creative with our interpretation of the basic layout, as you will see in the upcoming cards. For this particular version, I used a verse stamp from Rosie's Roadshow and the tag is an Accucut die.

Given the lack of interest in the challenge for the previous three sketches, I'm not going to post a challenge for the remaining three. However, if you are interested in playing along, please let me know and I'll be happy to open up the challenge again.

Cards from Friends

In case you didn't notice, I've taken a break from posting the card ideas from my "Cards with Versatility" class. I will resume posting shortly with the cards from Sketch #4 but today I wanted to share with you some cards that my students have shared with me (with their permission, of course).

The first card is from Nancy and is a very cute fall card. Nancy punched the leaves from the cover of a Woman's Day magazine. What a great idea for recycling magazines or those glossy catalog pages!

This next photo is courtesy of Claudine, an avid Copic fan. The leaves card is from my Copic Fall Cards class; the second card is a Claudine original. I'd say she passed with flying colors (yes, pun intended!).

Time for a new sketch - the 3rd in the series. The basic layout of this card is a stamped verse (Verses Rubber Stamps), matted and then layered with another strip of card stock down the left side. A star embellishment continues the theme from the verse.

Well, 2 sketches down and 4 more to go! This card is a very loose interpretation of the original sketch but a cool card just the same. I'm off to Marco's for my fall extravaganza make-it /take-it (and maybe a little shopping during the special sales???).

A die cut ornament (Accucut) and snowflake (Cuttlebug) make quick work of this card.

Sketch 2 - Card #9

This particular card was created in a spring theme but could easily be transformed for fall by simply changing the color scheme to oranges, golds, reds and browns. The maple leaf was cut and embossed using a Spellbinders die.

Sketch 2 - Card #8

While I like the original sketch with its layered ovals, I found myself drawn to the "staggered" approach for several of the card variations. The butterfly (Accucut) is die cut from bronze Stardream card stock (available from Marco Paper). I added a few pearls for the body and hand drew the "flight pattern" with a ultra fine line Sharpie marker.

Sketch 2 - Card #7

You'll notice that this card is very similar to card #2. Some times, simply changing the orientation of the card can provide a different perspective. I used a different die cut border (Accucut) in a different color as well.

Today's blog and the next few will be fairly short as I've got a long list of classes to prepare for over the next few days.

Sketch 2 - Card #6

My friend and I just came back from a day of knitting at our local yarn shop. We're working on a very cool wrap that can be buttoned in the back and made to look like a vest.

Now that the weather is getting cooler and I'm back into knitting, this card is quite perfect for today, with the little bit of fuzzy fiber at the top for interest. The card itself was die cut using an Accucut die. The front was then embossed with a Cuttlebug folder that had been inked prior to embossing. I also used a marbled paper to give it added interest. The hearts were made using the Marvy "giga" punches. The verse is from Rosie's Roadshow.

Sketch 2 - Card #5

As you can see from this card, the creative juices were really working the day this card was designed. An embossed background (Cuttlebug), a few die cut shapes (Accucut), a touch of Pearl Ex (Jacquard) and a few pearls for the body of the butterfly make a great card in an elegant color scheme of eggplant, black and gold. I used glossy black card stock for the scalloped square to add an extra special touch.

If you don't have matching striped paper for your project, make your own using a sponge dauber and your favorite ink pads. Using strips of Eclipse masking paper (Judikins) makes it easy to get perfect stripes every time.

Well, it's Monday morning and time for another Sketch post. This is another quick version - printed paper, a few ovals and a silk flower with a skittle center. The skittle was custom colored to match using Copic ink.

Copic Color Charts

Since the caps on Copic markers don't accurately reflect the color of the ink, I decided to create my own color charts for easy reference when selecting colors. The first chart is for Ciao and Spica marker colors and the second chart is for the Sketch colors (all 334 of them!).

To print the chart, simply right click on the image, select "open link in a new window" and the select print from your toolbar.

I suggest printing the chart with a laser printer on the card stock you use when coloring with Copics. This give you a true sense of the colors. I printed mine on both Solar White and Natural White Neenah Classic Crest 80# cardstock - my "go to" cardstock for Copics.

Sketch 2 - Card #3

This variation is the result of a "happy accident." I was holding the ovals and fanned them out to look at the colors and decided I liked what I saw. Another die cut (Accucut), a quick stamped verse (unknown source) and a few green skittles finish off the card.

If you find yourself with nothing but clear skittles, take a little Copic refill ink or your Copic marker and custom color them to match your project.

A printed card front, a quick die cut border, a few ovals from coordinating cards, finished off with a silk flower and matching button and you have the second card made using Sketch #2.

It's here! The last of the card designs (#10) from Sketch 1. I used a sheet of patterned paper and positioned 2 rectangles of card stock on top to mimic the look of patchwork. I also embossed the corners for an extra touch. The verse is stamped on colored card stock and positioned directly on the card, no matting this time!

Another day, another version of Sketch #1. This one is similar to Day 6 in that it uses patterned paper as the background. I inked the verse stamp with Marvy brush markers so that I could make the paint brush and palette a different color. I also used a corner punch from EK Success to coordinate with the paisley design in the paper.

To mix things up a bit but still keep it simple, I used two different patterned papers to create the background for this card. Use a coordinating card stock for the mat, stamp the verse and you're done!

Well, so much for scheduling a post! I had prepared my day 5 post and scheduled it to automatically post on the blog yesterday but it didn't work. So, today you will get two for one. First, day 5. Using an A2 card with a pre-printed front helped make this a super simple, super quick card. Stamp and mat the verse, add a heart punched out of red shimmer paper and you're done!

I'm thinking about renaming this segment of my blog to "a new card idea a day keeps the creative blockers away" - what do you think?

I remember when I was working on all of the cards for the "Cards With Versatility" class. Having to come up with so many ideas in such a short amount of time really did push me to my creative limits - and, yes, I did take a few prisoners with me! My friends Kelly and Peggy traveled with me on the journey. At various points along the way, each of them commented about how much I was testing their creativity. Oddly enough, they said they not only enjoyed it but thanked me for including them. Who would have thought I would be thanked for challenging (some may say torturing) my friends???

Labor Day BBQ

I was thinking about the upcoming holiday weekend and it reminded me of this card I did awhile back. It's perfect for that "end of summer" picnic. I actually made the card as a thank you note for the hostess of a luncheon I attended recently. The inside verse reads "My condiments to the chef!".

The chef and the verse stamps are from Inky Antics. I colored the image with my favorite pencil technique - Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.

Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day and don't forget to send a thank you to your hostess/host if you attend any picnics or barbecues this weekend.

Playing Catch Up

Whew! It's been a crazy few weeks and I am woefully behind in posting to the blog. I promised to post the boards from my Cards with Versatility class from Stampaway and I haven't forgotten. It's on my list of things to do and I hope to begin posting them later this week.

In the meantime, here's a quick card that we made in class. The stamp is from Rosie's Roadshow, the embossing was done with a Cuttlebug folder and the dies were from Spellbinders and Accucut.

Sneak Peek and a How To

For many of you, the excitement is building - Stampaway is just a few short days away and you're gathering your class supplies and plotting your shopping strategy.

In years past, I would be doing the same thing. This year is different for me. I'm going to be teaching classes so I thought you might enjoy a sneak peek at what goes on behind the scenes when I'm getting ready for a class. Instead of posting a card, this is a photo of the goodie bags (well, actually they are envelopes) that will go in the kits for the "Cards with Verse-atility" class.

Now, on to the how-to: Sharon posted a comment asking how I incorporated the dryer sheet into my Christmas in July cards (click here and here to see the original posts).

To create the frosty look, simply create your image panel (stamp and color as desired) and then run it through a Xyron machine so that the adhesive is on the image side of the panel. Remove the protective film and release sheet. Lay the image in a tray or on a clean sheet of paper and gently lay the dryer sheet (one that has been used but is clean) on top of the image panel. Place the release paper on top and gently brayer over the top to help the dryer sheet adhere to the image panel. Remove the release paper and sprinkle the entire image with glitter. Place the release paper over the image panel again and brayer once more to push the glitter through the dryer sheet and onto the adhesive on the image panel. Remove the release paper. Lift the image panel and gently tap off the excess glitter. Trim the dryer sheet to be even with the edges of the cardstock or wrap them around to the wrong side and adhere in place.

Christmas in July - Take II

As I put the finishing touches on my kits for my "Cards with Versatility" class, I thought it apropos to share with you a different take on the card I posted yesterday. For this version, I used a tree stamp by Art Impressions, pine green ink, a sheer red ribbon and red and green cardstock to complete the card.

If you're coming to Stampaway this year and have some free time on Thursday, August 6 at 1p, I'd love to have you join me for my class. It's all about creating multiple cards from one basic layout. Christmas in July

Since the weather has been a bit cooler than usual this week, I thought I'd post a holiday card. This one is from my "Holiday Cards" class that featured Judikins stamps. The tree is stamped three times with rainbow ink - the middle tree is first generation stamping and the other two are second generation to give the image more depth. I used a dryer sheet, my Xyron machine and some glitter to give it that "frosty" look, which doesn't show up as nicely as it does in person.

Happy 4th of July!

It's summertime and that means picnics and parties! I will be hosting the Make-It / Take-It at Marco's Paper this Wednesday and this card is the featured project. We will be using several techniques including paper weaving, creating hidden ribbon slider cards and making your own stickers.

The stamp is from Stampendous' Changito line, the papers are from Marco's and it is colored with Copics, of course!

A Day With Karen Lockhart

Saturday was a much needed play day. I spent the day in Nashville, Indiana playing with colored pencils under the expert guidance of Karen Lockhart of Lockhart Stam ps. Be sure to check out her website and her new stamp releases. She also has several techniques posted to help guide your coloring adventure.

The first class was all about layering colors to create depth and interest in your stamped images. The petunias are one of Karen's new releases. Notice the subtle difference in the colors of the garden gloves. By coloring one of them lighter, it is easy for the viewer to determine which glove is on top. The lighter spot in the center of the pot gives the illusion of its rounded shape.

Next, we incorporated the use of a stylus to add interest to stamped images. Check out the lines and flowers in these cute slippers. If you look at the original Lockhart stamp image, you'll notice that the lines and flowers aren't part of the stamp image. This technique, which Karen has graciously shared on her website, is a fun way to add your own personal touch to your stamping and it helps stretch your stamping dollar.

Near the end of our day, we learned how to color on black cardstock with a white pencil. By starting with a white pencil on dark cardstock, you provide a foundation upon which you can build with other colors.

Throughout the day, Karen reminded us of the importance of creating a story with our artwork. This butterfly is just one example of the many events that make up my life story. The colors of the butterfly mimic the colors in my business logo.

Copics Take Me Away!

Did you ever wake up and realize just how fortunate you are? Saturday was one of those days when I realized that life is still good despite what I hear on TV or read in the newspapers.

I stopped to grab a soft drink before a class and had the most delightful exchange with the young lady at the drive-up window. In a matter of a few short sentences (and seconds) we agreed that life was indeed good because we both woke up that morning - we were alive and healthy and determined that it was great way to start the day!

Next, I discovered how fortunate I am that I truly love my new career - teaching art and stamping classes. I taught a class on creating cheery greeting cards by coloring stamped images with Copics. My students were eager to learn and continuously remarked about how much fun they were having and how peaceful and relaxing coloring can be. They gave themselves a task - go home and practice, practice, practice. I heartily endorse this assignment - not only will their coloring techniques improve but they will relax and de-stress while doing homework. It seems like quite an oxymoron but it really does work. I can't wait to see their finished artwork!

Continuing with my day, I chatted with Peggy, a wonderful friend who shares my passion for crafting, and I was again reminded that I am truly blessed to have several truly good friends. My mother always said you are lucky if you have just one true friend in life but you are truly blessed if you have several.

Speaking of my mother, I finished the day by having dinner with her. She is my role model, my biggest fan and my dearest friend. Whenever we're together, laughter and good-natured trouble are sure to be a part of whatever adventure we engage in.

In the spirit of my new mantra, I challenge you to let Copics (or your favorite art medium) take you away today so you can re-discover all the good things life has to offer you. Be sure to post some of you artwork in the comments section of the blog.

In Search of Myself

I had lunch with a friend today and our conversation included a discussion of recent changes in the direction of our lives. The conversation reminded me of a quote from Maya Angelou - "I've learned that sometimes life gives you a second chance."

My friend is between jobs and looking at different career options. My second chance came as a result of my retirement. I've been blessed with many opportunities to pursue my creative passion after many decades of working in corporate America. I now have time to spend with family, friends and, of course, my many hobbies. I even have time occasionally to post to my blog!

If you find yourself facing a change in directions, I wish you much success and support from friends and family. Hopefully, they will take a cue from this card (created with stamps from Rosie's Roadshow and colored pencils) and keep you "here" until you return.

Real Heroes

I was doing some filing today, cleaning up from last week's classes and ran across this card that was part of my "Misty Masking Magic" class at Wishful Thinking. With Father's Day fast approaching, it seemed like an appropriate card to include with today's post. The crown is part of Ranger's new mini mask collection and the verse is from Verses Rubber Stamps.

The card was designed as a collaborative effort between me and Peggy - the Craft Junkies in their true element! We were working together in my studio when Peggy stumbled across the masked panel - a discard from another creative session wherein I was trying to create several cards for my "Just For Men" class. After a few rounds of trial and error, we settled on this as the finished card.

Don't forget to take time out of your busy day to remember the people who have made a difference in your life. Most importantly, don't wait for a special occasion or holiday to let them know how much they made a difference in your life - send them a handmade greeting card today!

Fabulous Friday in Nashville

This past week was a busy one! I started the week with My "Cheaper by the Dozen" class at Stamp Your Art Out on Monday, hosted a make-it take-it at Marco's on Wednesday, taught two classes at Wishful Thinking on Friday - "Watercolor Wonders" and "Misty Masking Magic" - and finished up the week with two classes on Saturday at Stamp Your Art Out - a repeat of the Cheaper By the Dozen class and a "Just For Men" card class.

My fellow Craft Junkies member, Peggy, also taught her infamous Cuttlebug classes at Wishful Thinking on Friday. We had a great time hanging out with the wonderful folks in Nashville, Indiana. We wanted to say a big "Thank You" to Marlene for inviting us, Tamara for helping us with the logistics and to all of you who attended our classes. We hope to see you again some time soon!

Copic Certified

About 18 months ago, I discovered Copic markers. I was having so much fun with them that I just had to share what I was learning with others and began teaching Copic classes last fall at Marco's Paper. This giraffe (stamp from Rubber Cottage) is one of the images we color in my Copic 101 class.

Today marks another milestone in my Copic journey. I am excited to report that the Craft Junkies are now officially certified! Or is that certifiable? Some would say both. After a completing an all-day course taught by Sally Lynn MacDonald, we have each earned our designation as a "Certified Copic Designer".

And, a bit more exciting news from the world of Copics - if you were thinking that 322 colors weren't quite enough, there are 12 new colors being added to the Sketch line (U.S. release date TBD). For all of you who love sparkle and bling, there are 12 new colors of the Atyou Spica glitter pens now available as well. The new "Set B" includes more pastels and a "clear" pen. Set A (the original set) contains primary colors.

So, if you haven't yet taken the plunge into the world of coloring with Copics, I hope you'll join me at one of my future classes (see the list on the right) or at least follow along the colorful path that has become a part of this blog.
